Frequently Asked Questions for Junior Volunteers
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Junior Volunteer summer program, the applicant must attend an orientation, complete and submit their application package, and meet the minimum age requirement for their selected volunteer job. All paperwork must be submitted by the deadline stated during orientation.
Age Minimums
The age minimum is 13 years old by June 1, 2012. However, there is an age minimum of 16 years old for students working with our adolescent population (AfterAll program).
Availability and Locations
All volunteer positions for June-August 2012 will be in The Arc of Montgomery County’s child care and educational facilities located in Silver Spring and Gaithersburg. Volunteer opportunities will be available Monday-Friday, with hours vary depending upon the program and location. Junior Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of 25 hours of service. Service is scheduled on a first come, first served basis for volunteers who have completed the application process and attended an orientation session. Each volunteer may complete only one shift daily. Total service hours for each volunteer may be limited at our discretion.
Required Orientation
All Junior Volunteers are required to complete a one-hour orientation as part of the application process. Click here for more information about Orientation, including available dates and times.
TB Tests
All volunteers working in our children's programs must submit information for a background check and present negative TB test results dated within the previous 12 months. TB tests must be arranged with your health care provider and signed results provided from that office.
Paperwork
All application materials and instructions may be found on the Volunteer Application page. Please print these forms, complete them (including parent signatures) and bring them with you to the orientation. Please also bring a recent negative TB test because you will need proof before you can work with the children. All paperwork must be completed and submitted before you will be allowed to schedule your volunteer service.
Additional Information
We are a Student Service Learning (SSL) approved nonprofit agency, located in Rockville, Montgomery County. Our program is first come, first served, based on completed applications (including application, participation in orientation and TB test results) so we encourage early registration and early attendance at orientation sessions.
