Residential Services promotes independence for people living in apartments, townhouses and single family homes operated by The Arc of Montgomery County. Homes are located in various Montgomery County communities including Kensington, Bethesda, Rockville, Silver Spring, Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village.
Residential Services focuses on individualized supports tailored to individuals' choices and desires. Staff advocate for participants and encourage them to make their own decisions. Typically, three or four participants live in a home, but some homes support five or six people depending on the residents' needs and desires. Regardless of the number of participants in a home, every resident enjoys a private bedroom.
During weekdays, all participants must be involved in education, work, community service or senior living activities. Evening and weekend activities are based on individuals' interests and typically include:
•Fitness and exercise (swimming, bowling, gym workouts,
creative movement classes)
•Dining out
•Shopping
•Movies
•Vacations
•Volunteer work
•Attending or participating in music and arts activities
•Hobby classes
•Hosting parties and celebrations
Participants must apply to the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration for eligibility and funding approval. The Arc's Residential Services division can provide iformation about the application and approval process.
