Many people whose lives have been touched by The Arc of Montgomery County choose to include a special charitable gift in their will. Such gifts are most frequently cash or investments, but sometimes they are in the form of real estate or valuable personal property. Charitable bequests can even be in the form of copyrights, patents or mineral rights. Some bequests represent the entire bulk of an estate, while others are a more modest remembrance.

There are countless options, and you should be certain to work with your attorney or estate planning professional to ensure that your affairs are in order.  The Arc cannot prepare the exact language for your will, but we are happy to work with you and your representatives to meet your charitable goals.

When you include The Arc in your will, please notify us of your intentions. Sharing that information with us will allow The Arc to celebrate your generosity now, will serve as an inspiration to others who might be thinking of a similar gift, and will ensure that when the time comes, we are ready to work professionally and compassionately with your estate representatives to carry out your wishes.

THREE EASY STEPS TO INCLUDING THE ARC IN YOUR WILL

Name The Arc of Montgomery County As A Beneficiary
Designate The Arc as a beneficiary using the language, "The Arc of Montgomery County, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable organization incorporated in the State of Maryland, 11600 Nebel Street, Rockville, Maryland 20852-2554, 301.984.5777".

Specify Your Charitable Gift
In making your charitable bequest, you can designate The Arc to receive a specific dollar amount or item, a percentage of the value of your estate; a leftover ("residual") amount after all your other wishes and obligations are fulfilled, or a residual percentage of the value of your estate.

Notify Interested Parties
Times of loss can be stressful.  To minimize the stress and to help celebrate your lifelong personal values, please notify interested parties of your charitable bequest intentions in advance.  Your executor, other heirs and The Arc of Montgomery County should be aware of your plans.
